Serial the podcast is a podcast in which the host Sarah Koenig guides the listeners through the murder of Hae Lee. In the story the main suspect is Adnan Syed. He ended up being "guilty" and sentenced to life in prison, but there are some irregularities with the case.
We also saw a Netflix documentary called 13th. This documentary explores racial inequality in the United States and in its jails, more specifically how they are disproportionately made up of African-Americans.
In both of these examples we got to see someone else's story become the narrator's. I think that someone else's story turns into your own when you start adding your opinion or your views on it. For example, in the case of Serial the narrator takes it upon herself to investigate, question, and comment on the case. That made Adnan's story her story.
When it comes to Serial, I think it is hard for me to decide whether Adnan is guilty or not. There are episodes in which Adnan looks like he did it one hundred percent, and others in which he looks to be set up by his "friend' Jay. I think that he is not guilty because he had almost no control when it came to his trial and the mistakes that were made by people in charge of his case.
