In Humanities we read a book called The House On Mango Street written by Sandra Cisneros . This book is about a girl name Esperanza growing up in a barrio in Chicago. While growing up she has to go through a lot because of how her neighborhood affects her. She is forced to grow up at a really young age because of this. I did enjoy this book and I liked it. Although it might not be appropriate for certain ages it is a very good book.
Another book that we have read all the way through is a book called The Absolutely True Diary Of A Part Time Indian by: Sherman Alexie. This book is about a Native American teenager that is growing up in a reservation. While trying to find out who he is and who he wants to be in life he has to break the social rules and expectations that society have for him. I really enjoyed this book and I also liked most of it. It is very refreshing to have a book that has pictures again. I did like how the book ended too. I recommend this to most people but not all people.
In addition two these books we have also read a book called The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein. This book is a story told in the perspective of a dog named Enzo and how he witnesses his owner Denny's life. Throughout the book Enzo Denny go through extremely hard challenges through the story. From financial problems to personal problems Enzo is always there mentally putting this story together. In a roller coaster of events and emotions as a reader I really enjoyed how the author found a way to put a period at the end of the book and not drag it out or leave in too vague. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that would be interested in this type of book. Although you might not be the biggest fan in the beginning you will definitely enjoy the rest of the book.
